Fuels Tax Rates
In accordance with Code of Virginia § 58.1-2217, the DMV Commissioner is required to determine the statewide average wholesale price of a gallon of unleaded regular gasoline and diesel fuel for the purpose of determining the applicable cents per gallon in accordance with a tax rate of 3.5% on gasoline and 6% on diesel.

Alternative Fuels Conversion
All Alternative Fuels are required to be converted to the Gasoline Gallon Equivalent (GGE) before reporting. A list of alternative fuels and their conversion formulas, along with a conversion tool, is available on Converting Alternative Fuels to GGE.
