Renewing Your Driver's License by Telephone
You may renew your driver's license every other renewal cycle by telephone unless your license is suspended, revoked, or you hold a Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Other conditions may affect your eligibility to renew by telephone. If you use a telephone to renew, DMV will use the photograph on your existing license.
DMV will mail your renewal application prior to the expiration date of your driver's license. You can renew by calling DMV on a touchtone telephone and using a credit card to pay for your renewal transaction. We accept American Express, Visa, MasterCard, and Discover credit cards.
Before you dial, review your pre-printed driver's license renewal application that arrived in the mail. If your address, height or weight is incorrect on the application, you can still use the touchtone system to renew. Additionally, you can change your organ donor status. If any other information is incorrect, call DMV at (804) 497-7100. Speak with a DMV customer service agent and explain the incorrect information. Have your credit card and driver's license renewal application available when you call.
Dial toll-free: 1-888-337-4782.
You'll be greeted by an automated attendant. Follow the instructions and enter your credit card number and other information using the keys on your touchtone phone.
Please allow up to 15 days from the date of your request for your renewed driver's license to arrive by mail.
