RICHMOND - The Radford DMV Select will hold a grand re-opening event on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at 10 a.m. The DMV Select is located at 619 Second Street in Room 164 and provides selected DMV services to local residents. The re-opening event will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Radford City Treasurer Janet Jones operates the DMV Select and said the renovation provides improved flow and better accessibility for disabled customers. "We did the renovation for the convenience of the citizens," Jones said. "It's the same space, but much more open. And we gained some foyer space."
DMV Commissioner Richard D. Holcomb added, "Our partnership with the Radford Treasurer's office to provide selected DMV services is invaluable to Virginians in this area. We applaud Mrs. Jones and the City of Radford for upgrading this space for an even more positive customer experience."
Jones began operating the Radford DMV Select in April 2007 as a service to local residents since the closest DMV customer service center is about 30 minutes away in either Christiansburg or Pulaski. The Radford DMV Select is one of 57 partners throughout the state who contract with DMV to conduct mostly vehicle-related transactions. Each DMV Select has online access to DMV allowing the partner to update customer records immediately as well as issue vehicle decals. Radford's hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
DMV's mobile office called DMV 2 Go will also be open for business for the first time outside the Radford DMV Select on October 19 from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. The handicapped-accessible mobile office on wheels can provide all DMV transactions including applying for and renewing driver's licenses or ID cards, road and knowledge tests are available, and applicants can get their pictures taken.
