DMV Continues Partnership with Social Security Administration
Mobile Office will Serve Customers Quarterly Outside Cary Street Location
RICHMOND - The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles' mobile customer service center, called DMV 2 Go, will provide convenient service for customers who also need to do business at the Social Security Administration (SSA) on a routine schedule.
The mobile office will be in the back parking lot of the SSA's downtown Richmond office located at 1834 West Cary Street near VCU. Customers will be served quarterly from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the third Monday of every third month starting Monday, March 19. The three dates following are June 18, September 17, and December 17.
DMV 2 Go first visited this location in January with great success, conducting more than 50 transactions. You use a number of the same documents to conduct regular transactions at both agencies, so this partnership allows people to conduct business at the same location.
"One of our top priorities is streamlining government services for Virginians," said DMV Commissioner Richard D. Holcomb. "We knew this partnership was a good idea, and it exceeded our expectations. We served a number of customers who were seeking name change transactions at both SSA and DMV. We also served several people who had just moved to Virginia from other states. They were transferring their social security benefits and getting a new driver's license."
The full service office provides all DMV transactions including applying for and renewing driver's licenses and ID cards. Road and knowledge tests are available, and applicants may get their pictures taken. Customers can order disabled parking placards or plates, and get vehicle titles, license plates and decals. If Virginians have recently moved, they can stop in to update their address on their DMV record, and also update their voter registration address and organ donor status. Customers can search for other state services through a wireless Virginia Internet portal.
Customers are encouraged to research and bring the proper documents to complete their transactions by using the interactive document guide at www.dmvNOW.com.
