Moving Within Virginia?

Driver's Licensing and ID Cards

You have thirty (30) days from the date of your move to notify DMV of your address change. For no fee, you can request an address card showing your new address that you must carry with your license. As an alternative, you can purchase a new driver's license with your new address either online or in person.

Vehicles

  • Notify DMV of your move so that we can change your vehicle status on our files. Please provide us with:
    1. your full name and customer number
    2. the title number and the last 4 digits of the vehicle identification number (VIN) for each vehicle that you own.
  • Return your old decal to the Commissioner of Revenue of your old locality, and contact the Commissioner of the Revenue of your new locality to get a new decal. This will prevent the old locality from assessing personal property taxes on your vehicle(s).
