DMV Event Celebrates Grand Re-Opening of Abingdon DMV Select
New Location Has More Parking; Easily Accessible for Customers

RICHMOND – The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and Washington County will celebrate the grand re-opening of the Abingdon DMV Select on the first floor of the new Washington County Government Center at One Government Center Place, Abingdon, 24210 on Friday, March 22 at 10 a.m.

The new Abingdon DMV Select location is handicapped-accessible and has more parking. The building is near the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center and serves as a one-stop location for business with the County Administrative Division offices including the Building and Zoning Departments, the County Treasurer, and Commissioner of the Revenue. Offices for the Chamber of Commerce are also housed in the new County Government Center.

"We have been operating out of this new location with great success since late fall, and we are excited to officially celebrate," said DMV Select Agent Fred Parker, Washington County Treasurer. "This office is now easily accessible off of exit 14 on I-81, has ample parking, and it’s more convenient for our customers to be able to receive a variety of services in one building."

Abingdon is one of 57 DMV Select partners throughout the state. Local governments and private citizens contract with DMV to conduct vehicle-related transactions. Each DMV Select has online access to DMV, allowing the partner to update customer records immediately. The Abingdon hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In addition to a flag presentation and ribbon-cutting event celebrating the grand re-opening of the Abingdon DMV Select, the DMV 2 Go mobile office will provide services at this location for the first time from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The handicapped-accessible full service mobile office provides all DMV transactions including applying for and renewing driver's licenses and ID cards. Road and knowledge tests are available, and applicants may get their pictures taken and complete vision screenings. Veterans can also apply for Virginia’s veterans ID card.

”DMV 2 Go complements the many vehicle services already provided by the Abingdon DMV Select,” said DMV Commissioner Richard D. Holcomb. ”We appreciate our partnership with Washington County for offering these convenient alternatives for local DMV customers.”

Customers are encouraged to research and bring the proper documents to complete their transactions by using the interactive document guide at www.dmvNOW.com.
