DMV 2 Go Returns to Supplement Services in Mathews County
Event to Celebrate Mobile Office Service and Ten Year Anniversary of the Select
RICHMOND - The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles' mobile customer service center, called DMV 2 Go, will return to Mathews offering supplemental services at the DMV Select location. On Tuesday, April 2 from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m., DMV 2 Go will be open for business outside the Mathews DMV Select at Liberty Square, 10644 Buckley Hall Road. A ribbon cutting ceremony highlighting the partnership between DMV 2 Go and the Mathews DMV Select will be held at 10 a.m. The event will also include a flag presentation ceremony in honor of the Mathews DMV Select’s ten-year anniversary. A number of dignitaries are slated to attend.
DMV 2 Go is a handicapped-accessible full-service mobile office provides all DMV transactions including applying for and renewing driver licenses and ID cards. Road and knowledge tests are available, and applicants may get their pictures taken and complete vision screenings. Veterans can also apply for Virginia's veterans ID card.
DMV 2 Go complements services already provided by the Mathews DMV Select operated by the Commissioner of the Revenue and the Treasurer's Office. The 57 DMV Selects throughout the state provide an alternative to visiting a full-service DMV customer service center. DMV Selects are in convenient locations where customers may otherwise have to drive long distances to get to a customer service center. From Mathews, the closest full-service DMV office is in Gloucester, which is more than a 30-minute drive for some residents.
DMV Selects process a number of transactions including vehicle titles and registrations, license plates, and transcript requests. DMV Selects do not issue driver's licenses, learners permits or ID cards. That is where DMV 2 Go comes in.
"Our mobile offices supplement the great work DMV Selects are already doing, and we are excited to continue this partnership," said DMV Commissioner Richard D. Holcomb. "Previous visits to the Mathews DMV Select were busy, so we know customers in this area are enjoying this service option." During a visit in February, DMV 2 Go conducted more than 100 transactions.
